Enable E911 on a telephone number

NOTE: The Flowroute API v2 now allows for programmatic validation and addition of E911 addresses. To learn more, see the E911 API reference.

An address associated with E911 is used to add an extra layer of information to your E911 service. The address associated with E911 allows your location to be more accurately pinpointed based on the provided address information. You can set as many addresses as you need, each identified by a reference label you set for the address. The public-safely access point (PSAP) can then use this information in the event of an emergency to help locate you if you are unable to respond.

To create an E911 Entry:

  1. Log on to your Flowroute Manage account.
  2. Click the DIDS menu, and then click E911

  3. In the Addresses section, click Add Address

The Add E911 Address page appears.

  4. Complete all information on this page.

    • In the Label field, enter a label name identifying the address you are adding. For example, this might be Work

    • From the Address type drop-down list, select a location to more accurately pinpoint your location. For example, if you work in a building where multiple companies are based, select Floor

    • In the Address type number, enter the value associated with the Address type. For example, if you selected Floor for the Address type, enter 6 if your office is located on the sixth floor of the building.

  5. Once you have completed the form, click Validate and add

The Add E911 Address page closes, returning you to the E911 page. If there are any issues with the address you are adding, an error message is returned for each issue. You will be prompted to fix the error(s) before the E911 address can be validated.

NOTE: A validated E911 address can be edited after saving. Once saved, an Edit button appears on the E911 page.

  9. Finally, ensure that your equipment's dial plan is set up to send outbound 911 calls to Flowroute with the North American 10 or 11-digit DID number that you want. For example, both of the following formats are accepted:

    • 10-digit: 2062995555

    • 11-digit: 12062995555

If you aren't sure whether or not your equipment is set up correctly for this, you can use the test script on your E911 address page to place a test 911 call and verify the information that the emergency operator receives.
