Test your CNAM and E911-enabled phone number using X-Lite

With the launch of Flowroute's E911 and CNAM APIs, you now have two ways of enabling both services on your Flowroute number:

Via the Flowroute API:

This article will show you how to test your E911 and CNAM presets on your Flowroute phone number.

NOTES:

  • While E911 service can be activated for both long code and toll-free numbers, CNAM storage can only be enabled for long code numbers.
  • CNAM records take up to 48 hours to be approved on your account and association with a phone number takes an additional 5-7 business days.

Requirements

Steps

Prepare your test environment

  1. Open up X-Lite and select X-Lite > Preferences.

  2. Select Accounts and make the following substitutions:

  3. Click "OK" to confirm. Your account status should be green once it's ready.

Test your E911-enabled number

If you have previously entered an E911-enabled phone number, place a test call by dialing 933. To confirm that a phone number is E911-enabled, see the "Manage your DIDs" page in the portal or see "List All Phone Numbers Associated with an E911 Record" to query the API. The following is an example of a long code number with E911 service enabled.

To confirm the service, call 933 from the E911-enabled number:

You should hear a wonderful monotonic reading of the E911 service address associated with your phone number. That's it - hang up or dial again if you're not convinced!

Test your Caller ID Name on Outbound Calls

You can set a Caller ID name for your Flowroute long code number of up to 15 characters provided that it meets all the rules outlined in "Create a New CNAM Record". Since not all mobile phones display caller ID names, you may need a separate softphone installation (or install one that allows for multiple account registrations) to dial another one of your Flowroute numbers that you can confirm have CNAM lookups enabled. To test, dial that number from your long code number with a previously assigned Caller ID Name. The CNAM value associated with that number should be displayed like so:

Hopefully you will have a more professional-sounding CNAM, as the one above might not be the best for business. Hope this helps with verifying your Flowroute-enabled E911 and CNAM settings.
